About us
Happy Soles is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
What began as a volunteer shift became a life-changing mission. During my time at a local homeless shelter in San Antonio, I witnessed members of our Latino community struggling with untreated wounds, unable to communicate their medical needs due to language barriers.
The sight of preventable complications and the clear frustration as people tried to explain their situations in Spanish stayed with me. These weren’t just medical issues – they were fundamental gaps in our healthcare system that disproportionately affected our unhoused community. In that moment, Happy Soles was born.
Our mission grew from a simple truth: every person deserves access to culturally-competent wound care. What started as providing basic wound care supplies has evolved into a growing nonprofit that now offers:
- Bilingual wound care services
- Cultural mediation with healthcare providers
- Emergency wound care kits with Spanish instructions
- Outreach to unhoused communities
Today, Happy Soles bridges the gap between medical necessities and San Antonio’s unhoused community. We believe that no one should suffer from preventable wound complications because of language barriers, and no person should have to choose between seeking help and maintaining their dignity or treating their child’s injury.
